Thousands of astronomers are kicking themselves in the ass and having a "why didn’t I think of that?" moment. Astronomers now have over a million images of galaxies far, far away taken by telescopes that they need to classify into galaxy types, such as Spirals, Bared and Elliptical. In comes Dr. Chris Lintott of Oxford University who wisely left all of the heavy lifting to the bored masses of the interwebs.
Dr. Lintott in all of his wisdom wisely uploaded all of the galaxies to GalaxyZoo which allows the public to help organize and categorize the galaxies. The response has been ‘astronomical’ and over 200,000 users have logged on and helped categorize the galaxies so far, making the project Citizen Science at it’s finest. The site has become so popular that it now having trouble staying up as they prepare to launch GalaxyZoo 2.
