Technological Advances in the Presidential Inauguration

Technological advances have been huge over the last 50 years. Even going back to George Washington when he was the first person to say “So help me God” after his oath and kissing the Bible.  One had to be there in order to experience it.

In 1845, President Polk’s inauguration was the first to use the telegraph.

In 1857, President McKinley’s Inauguration was the first to be photographed for historical purposes.

In 1925, President Coolidge’s Inauguration was the first to use recorded voice by newsreel.

In 1949, President Truman’s Inauguration was the first to be televised nationwide.

1997 would mark the birth of the Inauguration via Internet with President Clinton.

2009 will bring what?  Twitter, Text Messages, Live Webcasts, Mobile Videos, etc.  The possibilities are endless.
