If you are a long time console gamer, or maybe even new to the scene, Tony Hawk’s games have been a staple of the industry for over a decade. News out of Montana (the hub of the gaming world, no doubt) is that the long time producer of the Tony Hawk video game series, Neversoft, has passed the torch to an unnamed developer so they can focus on Guitar Hero.
Now Tony Hawk games have been pretty worthless lately. So it’s no shocking news to read this but they are still big sellers. If you’re in the gaming industry making games, slapping Tony Hawk on it will make lots of kids purchase it, so it’s shocking that Neversoft would give up the rights. What is more shocking is the photo of one of the developers (below).
The only thing I can picture this guy developing is herpes and/or liver problems or better yet, a hunting accident. Afterall, he is in Montana. But who am I to judge? When I grow a killer moustache I look like a pederast.
“It’s probably best for the franchise… it’s time for someone else to add fresh ideas to it,” Joel Jewett said.
Neversoft will remain active with Guitar Hero sequels, including the much hyped Guitar Hero: Metallica set for later this quarter. Because as Joel Jewett so eloquently puts it, “his crew would get together on Friday nights to drink whiskey and play Guitar Hero.” So the mustached one drinks whiskey, weird. I bet he likes Lynard Skynard too. Here is the complete article. It’s more of an ode to Montana and Joel’s life, but the tidbits of Tony Hawk and Guitar Hero are sprinkled in there. The rise to fame of Neversoft is an interesting read as well. And if this guy can do it, we all can do it.
Damn you Guitar Hero! First you give me carpal tunnel, now you take away Tony Hawk. What more pain must you cause before you are happy?
